How To Use Nespresso Milk frother And Clean It?

If you haven’t gotten a Nespresso with milk frother, the Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother is the next best thing to have for making the milk foam for cappuccino and latte. In this post, I like to cover how to use the Nespresso milk frother and clean it.

How to use Nespresso Milk frother?

Nespresso has 2 models for Aeroccino – Nespresso Aeroccino 3 & 4. Nespresso Aeroccino 4 is the upgraded version of Aeroccino 3. The main difference being Aeroccino 4 is using a single whisk for steaming and frothing milk, while the older version requires a spring to be detached from the whisk when you are steaming milk.

As such, I’m listing the instructions to use both Nespresso frothers separately.

Using Aeroccino 3 Milk frother

  1. If you are using the milk frother for the first time, clean all the parts first.

  2. Aeroccino3 has 2 modes for the whisk. If you are frothing milk, keep the spring on the whisk. For steaming milk, remove the spring from the whisk.

  3. Pour milk into the frother up to one of the 2 level indicators marked in the jug. When making froth, use the lower level so that the milk won’t foam up and overflow. For hot milk, use the higher level. For both cases, make sure you don’t fill up milk over the corresponding indicator level.

  4. Cover the lid on the milk frother.

  5. Aeroccino3 use a single button operation for both steaming and frothing milk. For steaming milk, just press the button and let go. And the button will lit up a red light. Steaming milk will finish in about 80 seconds. For frothing cold milk, you have to press and hold the button down for 2 seconds. This time, the button will have a blue light. Frothing milk will take about 60 seconds to finish.

Using Aeroccino 4 Milk frother

  1. If you are using the milk frother for the first time, clean all the parts first.

  2. Put the whisk in place inside the frother jug.

  3. Pour milk into the frother up to one of the 2 level indicators. When making froth, use the lower level so that the milk won’t foam up and overflow. For hot milk, use the higher level. For both cases, make sure you don’t filled up milk over the corresponding indicator level.

  4. Cover the lid on the milk frother.

  5. Dry the connector before plugging the frother to the base. Once the frother sits on the base, you will see the 4 buttons having a steady on state.

  6. Then press the button for the type of milk foam you want to prepare. Once pressed, the button will blink as the preparation is ongoing and turn to steady on once the preparation is done. Frothing hot and cold milk takes 80 seconds to complete. For steaming hot milk, it takes about 150 seconds. However, you can stop the preparation anytime either by pressing the button again or removing the frother from the base.

  7. Once ready, pour the ready milk into your cup. For foam, use a non-metal spoon to collect and pour over the cup.

  8. Aeroccino 4 will automatically shut down when it has not been used for more than 9 mins. To switch on again, just press one of the 4 buttons.

Special Instructions for Nespresso Milk frother

The Nespresso frother only works with certain type of milk. The certain amount of protein in the milk is required as it is this protein that causes the frothing. Before frothing, remember to shake the milk in the carton well to distribute the proteins evenly in the milk. Consider these type of milks for better foaming results:

  • Ultra Heat Treatment boxed milks
  • Conventional milk
  • organic milk
  • Cow’s milk

Besides being affected by protein content, it also also affected by the fat content in the milk. Low fat will result in foam that is dry and stiff. High fat, on the other hand, will result in foam that is wet and silky. So if the foam quality is not up to expectations, check the fat content in the milk.

How Nespresso Milk frother works?

The technology behind the milk frothing lies with the mechanical frothing whisk found in the container. This whisk is used to make the dense froth for your cappuccino.

There’s a slight difference to how the whisk work in the Aeroccino 4 and 3.

In the older Aeroccino3 milk frother, the whisk has two modes, one for making hot milk and another for making milk foam. To make froth milk, use the entire whisk and keep its spring attached. To make hot milk without foam, take out the spring and insert the black part of the whisk instead. When you have the Aeroccino heating up and the whisks spinning, you know that the frothing is functioning right.

In the newer Aeroccino4, there’s no need to do anything to the whisk other than putting it into the jug which is also more convenient.
